Located along one of Victoria’s fastest growth corridors, Torquay’s Zeally Sands Estate is a coastal development comprising 402 residential lots under the jurisdiction of Barwon Water.
Safeguarding against system failures
Aquatec’s emergency storage vessels have been used to safeguard against environmental spills, as well as pump and power failure for this rapidly growing surf coast community.
To deliver on Barwon Water’s specifications for emergency storage vessels, Aquatec designed, developed and manufactured three vessels based on flow rates and hours of activity across all residential lots.
To circumvent power failure, pump failure or rising main blockages, these emergency storage vessels will store overflow for two hours of ‘Peak Wet Weather Flow’, enabling maintenance and repairs to be carried out before residents or the surrounding environment are affected.
Custom manufacturing
Three 10.5m long fibreglass emergency storage vessels with a 1.8m diameter were custom manufactured under strict ISO9001 quality control guidelines.
This design meets both Barwon Water and WSSA specifications and associated site constraints, allowing a shallow excavation in line with the overall layout of the development and residential land lots.
24/7 emergency support
Aquatec installed a SCADA system compatible with Barwon Water’s existing infrastructure. This system delivers 24/7 monitoring support in the event of an emergency, alerting personnel in real time to high flow levels, pump faults or power failures.
Accredited training on the system was provided onsite to Barwon Water personnel to ensure ongoing success of the system.
Supporting communities for the future
Emergency storage vessels accompany a 2250 diameter, 6.3m deep concrete pump station, custom manufactured by Aquatec to ISO9001 quality control standards.
From design and manufacture, mechanical, electrical and safety requirements, to full commissioning of the asset, Aquatec delivers quality infrastructure to the water authorities and residential communities it serves.
